Overview of Role Provisioning and Deprovisioning with an example

Role Provisioning Methods

There are two primary methods for role provisioning in Oracle HCM:

  1. Automatic Role Provisioning

    • This method allows roles to be assigned automatically based on predefined rules, such as job positions or other criteria. When a new employee joins or a current employee changes roles, the system can automatically assign the appropriate roles.
  2. Manual Role Provisioning

    • With manual provisioning, administrators can assign roles individually to users. This method is typically used in cases where automatic provisioning is not possible or practical, such as for specialized roles that require specific access.

Role Deprovisioning

Deprovisioning ensures that roles are revoked when no longer needed, protecting organizational security. This is crucial when an employee exits the company or transitions to a different role. By carefully managing de-provisioning, organizations can reduce the risk of unauthorized access and maintain compliance with security policies.

Example:

John joined the company as a software developer. Using automatic role provisioning, Oracle HCM assigns him the "Developer" role based on his job position. As he transitions to a Team Lead position, the system automatically updates his role to "Team Lead." When John leaves the company, role de-provisioning removes his access to all internal systems, ensuring security and compliance.
