Profile Management in Oracle HCM Cloud

🔹 What is Profile Management?

Profile Management is a feature in Oracle HCM that enables HR and managers to:

  • Track worker skills, competencies, languages, and accomplishments.
  • Define required or desired skills, degrees, qualifications, and competencies for jobs and positions.

📂 Profile Types in Oracle HCM

There are two main types of profiles in Oracle HCM:

✅ 1. Person Profile

  • Used to create individual profiles for workers.
  • Tracks specific skills, qualifications, and competencies of employees.
  • Predefined in the system and cannot be newly created.
  • Built using content sections (e.g., skills, competency, qualification).
Content Section Properties:
  • Display Mode:
    • Hide – Field not visible.
    • Summary – Value shown without expanding.
    • Detail – Value shown after expanding.
  • Item Catalogs – Individual items like skills/competencies tracked within sections.
Additional Properties:
  • Rating Model – To rate performance or proficiency.
  • Competency Alias – Short name for competency.
  • Renewal Period Units – Duration before competency/license renewal.
  • Satisfaction Method – How competency is validated (e.g., training, certification, supervisor assessment).
  • Evaluation Method – How competency is assessed (e.g., tests, interviews, observation).
  • Renewal Period Frequency – Frequency of renewal (months, years).
  • Behavioral Indicators – Specific behaviors that demonstrate a competency.
Rating Models:
  • Allow proficiency ratings on each competency item.
  • Define target proficiency levels on model profiles.
  • Apply distribution thresholds (e.g., X% employees in each rating level).

✅ 2. Model Profile

  • Templates for jobs, positions, or organizations.
  • Define targeted skills, qualifications, and requirements.
  • Used for workforce structure planning and role design.
Model Profile Types Include:
  • Job Profile – Requirements for performing a specific job (e.g., languages, degrees, certifications).
  • Position Profile – Similar to job profile but tied to a specific position.
  • Organization Profile – Used primarily in security, not profile evaluations.
  • Prerequisites – Conditions such as required competencies or licenses needed to enroll in courses (linked with Oracle Learning Cloud).

📊 Example Use Case:

  • For a role like Principal Product Manager, the model profile will list all required qualifications such as:
    • Competencies (e.g., Analytical Thinking, Leadership)
    • Degrees (e.g., MBA, B.Tech)
    • Experience (e.g., 5+ years in Product Management)
    • Certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile)
